Two cubes

I really enjoyed reading which project everyone was working on this summer. A lot of you are already celebrating the summer holidays I figure (and my antipodean friends have their Christmas in july break) and are all crocheting away, weather and family permitting. Husband, boy and be already had our vacation in June and we’re taking another break in September. But summer means, for me, watching of the Tour de France so I was happy the last few weeks to crochet away, and cross-stitch away.

Ik vond het leuk om te lezen wat iedereen in de zomer zoal haakt. Veel van jullie zijn inmiddels met zomervakantie, denk ik. Dus als tijd en gezin het toelaten, zal de haaktas wel worden gepakt. Mijn vakantie met man en kind zit er al op, die maakten we in juni. En we hebben er nog één tegoed in september. Maar zomer betekent voor mij ook Tour de France kijken en dan haak ik heel wat meters weg en in dit geval, ook kruissteken.

For this project I really, really (!) wanted to make a crochet and cross-stitch combo again. I’ve done a scarf and a cowl in crochet and cross-stitch and simply loved doing that. Coss-stitching on crochet works almost therapeutically for me. I wanted to challenge myself as well, so I decided to crochet a toy. A baby toy. Which my little boy is far too old for already, but I don’t care. As I think (humbly, as ever) that my crochet play cubes are absolutely adorable.

Want dit keer wilde ik per se weer eens wat kruissteek borduren op haakwerk. Ik haakte al eens een sjaal en een col met kruissteken erop en ik vind dat zo enorm leuk om te doen. Het werkt echt bijna therapeutisch voor me. Dit keer wilde ik mezelf eens uitdagen en maakte ik speelgoed. Baby speelgoed. Waar mijn kleine jongen alweer veel te groot voor is… maar dat mag de pret niet drukken. Ik heb speelkubussen gehaakt, en daarop cactussen geborduurd. En ik heb daar echt zo veel lol in gehad.

Scheepjes Cahlista

I made this crochet play cube with Scheepjes Cahlista. It’s a 100% cotton yarn in aran weight. It’s very firm, but still soft. These are qualities that are very important to me, when making crochet toys (or toys in general). Because they may looks oh so innocent and adorable, those baby can really use their toys with great force and (let’s face it) a lot of drool. But Cahlista knows how to deal with it and that’s why I used it to make this cute crochet play cube.

Ik ging aan de slag met Scheepjes Cahlista. Dat kun je onder andere hier kopen. Het is heel stevig, maar toch zacht. Eigenschappen die ik heel belangrijk vind voor baby speelgoed. Want ik weet niet hoe die kleintjes het voor elkaar krijgen, maar ze gaan hun spulletjes vaak met brute kracht (en heel veel kwijl) te lijf. Door dit 100% katoenen garen, krijg je een stevige, maar wel een heel leuke speelkubus.
