This sunshine ripple stitch was created from a failed granny square blanket. I thought I’d like a giant blanket made of tiny granny squares. Turns out, I didn’t. So I unravelled the whole thing and made this crochet blanket instead.
Deze gehaakte deken is ontstaan vanuit een misluke granny square deken. Ik dacht dat het leuk zou zijn om een gigantische deken te hebben bestaande uit heel kleine granny squares. Maar niet, dus. Ik besloot het hele ding weer uit de halen en van de bolletjes haakte ik deze deken.

The unravelling of a blanket
Unravelling the granny square blanket was quite the task, as it was already 1.50 m wide and over 1 m long, and I think I literally had to unravel over a hundred squares. But since I wasn’t going to finish the project anyway, I thought I’d better use the yarn for something I was going to finish.
Het was een behoorlijke klus om die granny square deken uit te halen, die was toch al 1,50 m breed en meer dan een meter lang. Maar het leek me beter om het garen te gaan gebruiken voor een project dat ik wel zou afmaken.

From that pile of yarn balls, I quickly picked a couple of colours that were just begging to be made into this sunshine ripple stitch blanket. The colours I’ve used for this blanket really reminded me of Care Bears. Do you remember them, from the 80s? When I was little I had a pair of blue pyjamas with one of the Care Bears on it and this blanket is like that pair of pj’s all over again. Nostalgic, isn’t it? So I guess this blanket is retro, nostalgic ánd full of love. ‘Cause those Care Bears were really cute if I remember correctly.
Uit de hele berg met bolletjes had ik al snel een verzameling kleurtjes apart gelegd, waarvan ik dacht: ja, dat wordt het volgende dekentje. De kleuren deden me namelijk ontzettend denken aan de Troetelbeertjes, kennen jullie die nog? Uit de jaren ’80? Ik had dus een blauwe pyjama met één van de Troetelberen erop. En deze kleurtjes doen me zo aan die pyjama denken. Hoezo nostalgie! Dus deken deken is retro, nostalgisch en full of love. Want de Troetelbeertjes waren echt geweldig, of dat dacht ik althans toen ik 3 was.
