Crochet pattern: sunrise shawl

For weeks I have been fiddling on a brand new crochet project. And if you follow me on Instagram you were already able to see some sneak peeks. It’s a lovely lace crochet shawl that is so light, yet so lovely and warm to wear. I’ve named it the sunrise shawl and the crochet pattern is ready for you.

Wekenlang ben ik bezig geweest aan dit nieuwe haakproject, met heel fijn garen. Letterlijk en figuurlijk, want ik moest op een veel kleinere naald haken dan ik gewend was. Supermooi, maar ook een heel precies werkje. Als je me op Instagram volgt, heb je vast al kunnen zien waar ik mee bezig was. En nu is zowel mijn nieuwe sjaal als mijn nieuwe haakpatroon klaar. Ik ben er blij mee. Het nieuwe patroon heet de sunrise shawl.

Sunrise shawl in Scheepjes Alpaca Rhythm

To make the sunrise shawl you can pretty much use a lace, fingering or sock yarn, as long as you don’t use a hook bigger than 3.5 mm (US 4/E). To make the shawl in the photo I used Alpaca Rhythm, in the colours Robotic and Chacha. For this particular scarf, I wouldn’t recommend using yarns that have cotton in it, as that would make it rather heavy. To make this lace crochet shawl, you need 5 balls of colour A and colour B.

Sunrise shawl, gemaakt met Scheepjes Alpaca Rhythm

In principe kun je deze sjaal met lekker licht garen haken, zoals kant-garen of sokkenwol. Garen dat je op maximaal haaknaald 3,5 haakt. Ik gebruikte voor de sjaal op de foto Alpaca Rythm in de kleuren Robotic en Chacha. Garen met katoen moet je niet nemen voor deze sjaal, daar wordt hij te zwaar van. Voor zowel kleur A als B heb je 5 bollen nodig.

Lace yarn is absolutely stunning. But it’s often not very cheap. I get that. So, I’ve also made this lace crochet shawl in sock yarn and let me tell you that the effect is just as stunning. You’ll need as many balls for your project, but since sock yarn is usually cheaper, and available in more colours, you’ll have a shawl that turns out just as lovely, for less money. My favourite sock yarns are Scheepjes Our Tribe, made from great material and available in stunning colours. For colour A you’ll need 4 balls (420 meters per ball), colour B requires 5 balls (420 meters per ball).

Sunrise shawl gemaakt van sokkenwol, Scheepjes Our Tribe

Kantgaren is ontzettend mooi. Maar het is meestal best prijzig en nogal priegelig. Dat snap ik ook wel. Daarom maakte ik mijn sunrise sjaal ook al eens van sokkenwol. En echt, dan krijg je dus ook gewoon een prachtige sjaal. Je hebt ongeveer net zo veel bollen nodig als bij de Alpaca, maar sokkenwol is meestal goedkoper en verrijgbaar in heel veel kleuren. Dus je sjaal wordt net zo mooi, net zo kleurrijk, maar wel voor een iets vriendelijker budget. Mijn favoriete sokkenwol is Scheepjes Our Tribe, gemaakt van heel goed materiaal en verkrijgbaar in heel veel verschillende mooie kleuren.  Van kleur A heb je 4 bollen nodig (420 meter per bal), van kleur B heb je 5 bollen nodig (420 meter per bal).
