In the summertime, I sometimes find it hard to decide what to crochet. A blanket can be too warm. As the longer it gets, the more time you’ll spend underneath it. And shawls. Well, I do have enough of those. For now, at least. But luckily, I thought of a really cool new project and didn’t have to think long about which yarn to use. What do you like to crochet in summer?
In de zomer vind ik het nog weleens moeilijk om te bedenken wat ik ga haken. Een deken kan zo maar te warm zijn, want hoe langer deze wordt, des te meer lig je eronder. Ik heb echt genoeg sjaals, nou ja… voorlopig dan. Gelukkig bedacht ik zo maar, spontaan, een nieuw project en gelukkig geen tekort aan garen. Wat haak jij graag in de zomer?
But it’s going to be one lovely summer project, that I can reveal. I chose really happy colours, combined with the freshest of whites. I like to take the yarn from the wrappers and wind them into balls sometimes. And this time, it really reminds me of scoops of ice cream. I’ve chosen Scheepjes Cahlista for my new crochet project. This is a 100% aran cotton yarn. You use hook size 4 mm – 5 mm with this yarn, depending on the project. For amigurumi, a 4 mm would work better and for blankets a 5 mm is advisable, or so I feel. I will be working with hook 4 mm, not that this is a pointer to what I’m making.
Maar zomers wordt mijn nieuwe project wel, dat kan ik verklappen. Ik koos gewoon voor heel vrolijke kleuren, samen met fris wit. De bollen heb ik uit de wikkel gehaald en opgerold tot handzamere bolletjes. Dat vind ik soms prettiger werken. Het lijken net bolletjes ijs, vind je niet? Het garen is Cahlista van Scheepjes, een 100% katoen garen dat je haakt op haaknaald 4 – 5 mm, afhankelijk van het project. Voor amigurumi kies je een 4mm, voor dekens of kleding 5 mm. Ik ga met 4 mm aan de slag, maar dat zegt eigenlijk nog niet zo veel.

If you’re wondering where I got those cute little yarn balls, let me show you something awesome. It’s the Cahlista colour pack. Consisting of 109 (yes, you read that right) colours of 15 gram balls. It’s a box of pure and utter happiness, honestly. The Box has been in my house for a while now and for months I just gazed at it in utter happiness. And I just couldn’t take one ball out of the box, it felt so wrong taking something so beautiful apart. But then. I got over it. For this summer bag I took some balls out, and for this project, I needed some more of those little cutie pies. Hierin zitten maar liefst 109 (ja, je last het goed) kleuren Cahlista, verpakt in bolletjes van 15 gram. Een doos vol puur geluk wat mij betreft. Ik heb de doos nu een tijdje en heb er in eerste instantie gewoon maanden gelukzalig naar zitten staren. Want daar vraagt zo’n doos wel om. En ik kon het niet over mijn hart verkrijgen om er ook maar één bolletjes uit te halen. Maar daar ben ik inmiddels wel overheen. Voor deze zomertas haalde ik er al wat bolletjes uit, en voor mijn nieuwe project moeten er ook wat bolletjes aan geloven. Ik vind het reuze handig.
