Funky fifties bag: crochet pattern

by Esther | Happy in Red

I started to design this crochet bag while my husband and I were travelling through South Africa. I chained my first stitches while I was sitting on the veranda and elephants were trotting by. So you could say, that there were things distracting me from my crochet. And I have no finished my project. The crochet pattern for the Funky Fifties Bag is now available.

Funky Fifties Bag: what you need

This crochet bag is made with a linen yarn because it’s strong and won’t sag. You can also use a jute yarn (like Scheepjes Mighty) or a 4ply cotton yarn. For the strap, you can use ready-made webbing or a fabric strap, as you’ll need something strong and firm. I have lined this bag. In the pattern, I explain, through a photo tutorial, how you can make the lining and how to line your bag. Mind you, lining the bag is completely optional. I think that lining a bag, makes a bag a lot firmer, though since Scheepjes Linen Soft is pretty strong, you can also use the bag without lining. So if you like to line your bag, with this pattern you can. For this particular bag, I used 0.5 meters of Tissue de Marie Batik as lining fabric.

YARN

  • Colour A: Scheepjes Linen Soft, colour 608 (2 balls)
  • Colour B: Scheepjes Linen Soft, colour 630 (4 balls)
  • Colour C: Scheepjes Linen Soft, colour 603 (1 ball)
  • You will use hook 3.5 mm (E)

GAREN

  • Bijpassend naaigaren
  • Naaigerei of naaimachine

OPTIONEEL: VOERING

  • ½ meter bijpassend medium katoen of canvas
  • Bijpassend naaigaren
  • Naaigerei of naaimachine
