Crochet nordic shawl

When you hear about a crochet nordic shawl you may immediately think about winter. But you don’t have to, because the crochet nordic shawl that I’ve made are just perfect for summer. I made them in lovely light cottons.

Bij een gehaakte Scandinavische sjaal denk je misschien meteen aan de winter. Maar bij mijn sjaals hoeft dan niet. Ik haakte ze namelijk in katoen en ze zijn heerlijk licht.

Crochet Nordic Shawl

I guess if you’d make this crochet nordic shawl in a merino yarn, it would be lovely and warm and perfect for winter. But if you choose a lighter yarn, you create the perfect shawl for spring and summer. I used cotton yarn and that’s simply perfect for a lighter summer shawl. The pattern is by My Rose Valley and is for sale via Etsy. It’s a quick and easy pattern, very accessible. Only when making the coloured tours I had to pay some proper attention and do some counting. But that went okay anyway. I especially like the finishing, what a cute edge!

Als je merino wol of een ander dik en zacht garen gebruikt voor dit haakpatroon kun je een lekkere warme wintersjaal haken. Maar als je een dunner en lichter garen gebruikt, heb je in een handomdraai een fijne zomersjaal. Perfect voor een kille avond buiten. Het patroon is van My Rose Valley (te koop via Etsy) en het haakt echt supersnel weg, een heel gemakkelijk en toegankelijk patroon. Alleen tijdens het maken van de gekleurde toeren moet je even goed opletten en af en toe even tellen. Maar dat ging toch behoorlijk goed. Ik ben vooral gek op de afwerking, de rand is echt heel mooi. 

Crochet Nordic Shawl: the yarn

I used Cotton8 by Dutch brand Scheepjes to make these Nordic Shawls. Cotton8 is very light and lovely to work with and it’s available in many lovely, vibrant colours. It’s a bit thinner than the yarn advised in the pattern, so I had to make some small adjustments here and there. I used hook 3.5 mm and crocheted 46 rounds (instead of 40) and after the colours, I added 7 rows (instead of 5) and that’s no problem for the other parts of the pattern. So if you’d like to make this scarf even bigger, that’s no problem.

Ik haakte deze sjaal met Cotton8 van Scheepjes, superlicht en prettig om mee te werken. En het is verkrijgbaar in een heleboel leuke, frisse kleuren. Omdat dit katoen een stuk dunner is dan de wol die wordt aangeraden in het patroon, heb ik het patroon een klein beetje moeten aanpassen. Ik gebruikte haaknaald 3,5 mm en haakte eerst 46 touren met (ipv 40) en na de kleurtjes haakte ik 7 touren (ipv 5) en dan nog kom je helemaal goed uit met het patroon, dus dat was wel een opluchting. Dus als je de sjaal nog groter wilt maken, is dat helemaal geen probleem.
