Two way clutch sewing pattern

A while ago I made a handmade clutch for a friend of mine. She loved it and I really wanted to make more. So I decided to draw up the pattern and tweak and improve it here and there. Now it’s here, and I love it. This clutch is perfect to hold your phone, coin purse, some lipgloss and your keys… basically, all your essentials. And by playing around with fabrics, this clutch can have various styles and looks. Have a look at my clutch sewing pattern.

Een tijdje terug maakte ik een handtasje voor een vriendin van me. Ze vond hem, gelukkig, ontzettend leuk. En ik bedacht me dat ik vaker dit soort tasjes zou willen maken. Daarom ging ik met het patroon aan de slag. Ik paste het aan en verbeterde het hier en daar. In dit handtasje passen je telefoon, portemonnee, lipgloss en je sleutels. Ofwel: alles wat je nodig hebt. En als je een beetje speelt met verschillende stoffen kun je de uitstraling van je tasje helemaal naar wens maken.

The Two Way Clutch

Before you start this clutch sewing pattern you may wonder why I’ve named it the Two Way Clutch. Well, this clutch has a detachable strap, enabling you to wear this clutch in two ways. Both as a clutch and a shoulder bag. The shoulder strap described in the clutch sewing pattern is just 50 centimetres, which is pretty short so you can tuck your clutch safely under your arm. But if you’re looking for a cross-body bag or something, you simply make a longer strap. Easy does it.

Voor je aan dit naaipatroon begint, vraag je je misschien af waarom dit naaipatroon de Two Way Clutch heet. Nou, dat is eigenlijk vrij gemakkelijk. Je kunt het hengsel namelijk losmaken en zo het tasje op twee manier dragen. Als echte clutch of als een schoudertasje. Het tasje heeft een vrij kort hengsel, van maar 50 centimeter. Zo hang je het tasje om je schouder en klem je het onder je arm. Wil je het liever echt om je schouders dragen? Dan maak je het hengsel simpelweg langer. 

The Two Way Clutch Sewing pattern: what you need

• 1 fat quarter for the outer bag
• 1 fat quarter for the lining
• ½ yard for the outside of the flap and the strap (or more if you’d like a longer strap)
• 3 x 10 cm (3 7/8 inch) of bias tape
• 2 swivel or alloy snaps
• 1 (vintage) button of about 18 mm/ ¾ inch
• Sewing machine
• Matching thread
• Your sewing gear!

The finished size of the Two Way Clutch is 18 cm high (7.1 inch), 9.4 cm wide (11.8 inch), 3 cm (1.2 inch) deep.

Two Way Clutch naaipatroon: dit heb je nodig

• Fat quarter (55×55 cm) voor de buitenkant
• Fat quarter (55×55 cm) voor de voering
• Een halve meter stof voor het hengsel, of meer als je een langer hengsel wilt
• 30 cm bijpassend biaisband
• 2 musketonhaakjes
• 1 (vintage) knoop met een doorsnede van 18 mm
• Bijpassend garen
• Een naaimachine
• Je standaard naai-uitrusting
• Strijkijzer en strijkplank

De afmetingen van een tasje zijn18 cm hoog, 9.4 cm breed en 3 cm diep.
