Sometimes the easiest crochet projects can cause quite the tummy ache. And that was the case with this candy cane crochet blanket. Not because the pattern was hard, or because I didn’t like the colours. But because I was running out of colours and they were out of stock… everwhere! But in the end… my candy cane crochet blanket is here!
Wat heb ik een buikpijn gehad van deze gehaake deken. Niet omdat het patroon zo lastig is, niet omdat ik de kleuren toch niet zo leuk vond, maar omdat drie van mijn kleurtjes net opraakten vlak voor ik klaar zou zijn met de deken. En omdat die kleurtjes nergens meer op voorraad leken te zijn. Wat een paniek. Maar gelukkig kwam het goed en nu is mijn gehaakte deken toch af.

Candy cane crochet blanket
I think the official term is ‘playing yarn chicken’ and I completely lost that game. But since we’re in the middle of the summer break, most yarn shops in my neighbourhoods are closed. And I couldn’t find the right colour baths on the internet. So there was nothing I could do, but wait for my local yarn shops to open up again. When they (finally!) did I felt so, so lucky that I found the right shades instantly and I was able to finish this candy cane crochet blanket the same afternoon.
De officiële term voor ‘doorhaken in de hoop dat je garen niet opraakt, voordat je haakwerk klaar is’ is ‘yarn chicken spelen’ en dit spelletje verloor ik dus dik met deze gehaakte deken. De wolwinkel bij mij in de buurt, waar ik het garen kocht was dicht vanwege de zomervakantie. En op internet kon ik het juiste kleurbad voor mijn kleurtjes niet vinden. Dus ik moest gewoon echt even wachten. Toen mijn wolwinkel weer open ging (en het leek wel alsof dat maanden had geduurd) vond ik meteen nieuwe bolletjes in de juiste kleur en kon ik deze gehaakte deken snel afmaken, dezelfde middag nog. Gelukkig maar.

actually started a blanket with this exact same ripple pattern about a week ago and now its currently sitting beside my bed waiting for me to pick it back up, I agree with you on the important thing being the colours, so true if it doesn’t look pretty then what’s the point! I picked Sea Green and Stone for my blanket – I hope this won’t go into my Never going to happen pile! Better get onto it!
