C2C blanket: free pattern, graph & tutorial

When you crochet C2C you don’t crochet rounds or rows, but diagonals. When looking at the pattern you start with the little block in the left bottom corner and you end with the block in the top right corner.

To start

  • Chain 6
  • Crochet a DC in the 4th, 5th and 6th chain from the hook.
  • You have now made your first little block, this is the block in the bottom left corner.

Corner to corner haken: gratis haakpatroon

The 2nd diagonal

  • Chain 6, DC in the 4th, 5th and 6th chain from the hook
  • Turn your block, so that it’s parallel to the ch3 of your first block
  • Slst into the ch3 of the first block
  • Chain 3, 3 DC in the ch3 loop of the first block
  • You have now made your second diagonal

The 3rd diagonal

  • Chain 6, DC in the 4th, 5th and 6th chain from the hook.
  • Turn your block, so that it’s parallel to the ch3 of your first block
  • Slst into the ch3 of the first block
  • Chain 3, 3 DC in the ch3 loop of the first block
  • Slst into the ch3 of the next block, Chain 3, 3 DC in the ch3 loop of this block, repeat once more
  • You have now made your second diagonal.
  • Crochet diagonal 4 and 5 in the same way.

C2C: make a swatch

To illustrate C2C I am making this little practise pattern, which you can try too. To practise a little on C2C before you start the C2C blanket.

Corner to corner crochet: free tutorial | Happy in Red

Decreasing and changing colour

  • In the example, you start decreasing from diagonal 6 onwards (you’re going up and no longer grow to the side), and you’ll be changing colour in diagonal 6 as well. This is how it works.
  • Decreasing: 4 slst along the sides of the last block you just made, the last slst is in the ch3 loop. To start diagonal 6, ch3 and 3dc into the loop.
  • Change colour: there are many ways to change colour during C2C, but I think you should change colour the way you know how to and that you feel most comfortable with. I change colour the way I do when I change colours when I am making a blanket in rows. Just make sure you have changed colour before slip stitching into the 3ch loop of the next little block.

C2C crochet, resources

  • I think Esther, of It’s all in a nutshell, explains C2C very well in her video. She has such a nice voice too!
  • This video explains quite clear how to switch colours in a grapgan.

Corner to corner haken, handige bronnen

C2C blanket: graph for the C2C Harlequin Blanket

  • To make things easier for you, I (together with the help of my husband) came up with a graph for the C2C crochet harlequin blanket. On the top of this page, I explain which colours of yarn correspond to the colours in the graph.
  • The finished size is 85 cm wide and 130 cm long (33.5 inch x 51 inch).
  • I crossed off every diagonal after I finished it, to keep me from getting confused. I recommend weaving in your ends every 7-10 diagonal, or you will have way too many ends to weave in when you finish your c2c blanket. Once you’re done with your C2C blanket I highly recommend blocking it, to give it an extra nice (and even professional!) finish. Blocking your work is easy, in this tutorial I explain how it works.
  • If you buy the premium version of this crochet pattern on Etsy and Ravelry you’ll have a large printable graph at your disposal.

Corner to corner haken: haakschema Harlequin deken

Question on the C2C Harlequin blanket, please. Which diagonal do you begin the decrease? I have only done C2C in a square and not a rectangle like this one. This is beautiful and I don’t want to mess it up.

Hi! Just keep following the graph and counting the ‘blocks’ (I stripe off the blocks as I go) and you can’t go wrong.
